Become a Fireplace Ninja.

Know what fits your space, what the project requires, and what to do next.

It starts with a $200 visit to your home. I measure the space, listen to what you want, and sort through the fireplace, venting, and design decisions with you. You leave with a written plan you can use to compare options and request quotes.

  • No showroom, no inventory
  • In-home across Colorado

How it works

Three steps. Stop at any of them.

Each step builds on the one before, and what you’ve already paid counts toward the next. Start with the consultation and decide from there.

In-home visit

Fireplace Consultation

“Tell me what I’m working with.”

An in-home assessment of your existing fireplace. We’ll measure it, evaluate your goals, and explain your options — what can change, what can’t, and what each path involves.

  • In-home measurement of your fireplace, surround, and venting
  • A conversation about what you want from the room
  • Your options explained — gas, wood, pellet, electric, insert, or full replacement
  • Each additional fireplace in the same home assessed for $50
  • A written Fireplace Project Brief you can use to compare options, request quotes, and move forward with confidence

Design

“Show me exactly what I should build.”

The consultation tells you what’s possible. The design settles it — the exact product, how it will look, and the dimensions and requirements your contractor needs to build it without guessing.

  • Everything in the consultation
  • Appliance specified by make, model, and options
  • Fireplace elevation drawing
  • Surround materials and finish recommendations
  • Framing, clearance, and venting requirements in writing
  • Each additional fireplace designed for $250

Project Coordination

“Help me get it built correctly.”

For projects where you’d rather not manage the details yourself. I order the appliance, line up the installer, coordinate your other trades, and stay with it through inspection and startup. I don’t install — I make sure it gets installed right.

Coordination starts at $2,500 and is quoted when the design is finished — by then the number of fireplaces, the trades involved, and the real scope are known, so you get a firm figure instead of a guess.

  • Appliance and venting procurement
  • Installer selection and scheduling
  • Coordination with your framer, plumber, and electrician
  • Site oversight through inspection and final startup

Why independent matters

No showroom. No inventory.
No product I need you to buy.

A showroom sells you what’s on the floor. I specify from the whole market — gas, wood, pellet, electric, insert, full replacement — and recommend the one that fits your opening, your venting, your altitude, and your budget. Then I tell you exactly what it takes to install it.

Common questions

Before you call.

The things people ask me most, answered straight.

What happens at the $200 consultation?

I come to your home and look at the actual fireplace. We measure the opening, the surround, and the venting, talk through what you want the room to do, and go over your real options — what can change, what can’t, and what each path involves. Afterward you get a written Fireplace Project Brief you can hand to a contractor, a dealer, or an architect.

Do you install fireplaces?

No. I don’t install, and I don’t sell product. At the Project Coordination level I order the appliance, select and schedule the installer, coordinate your other trades, and stay with the project through inspection and startup — but the installation itself is done by a licensed installer.

Do I have to buy all three steps?

No. Stop at any of them. What you’ve already paid counts toward the next step, so the consultation is $200, the design is $300 after that, and coordination starts at $2,500 once the design is done. Most people stop at the design.

What if my house has more than one fireplace?

Each one is priced as an add-on rather than a second project. The consultation is $200 for the first fireplace and $50 for each additional one in the same home, and the design is $250 per additional fireplace. Project coordination for a multi-fireplace job is quoted once the design is finished.

Can I take the Project Brief to my own contractor or dealer?

Yes — that’s what it’s for. It’s a written document listing dimensions, clearances, venting requirements, and your options, so you can compare bids and have everyone working from the same information instead of from a conversation someone half-remembers.

Why hire someone independent instead of going to a fireplace showroom?

A showroom sells what’s on its floor. I don’t carry inventory and I don’t have a line to move, so I specify from the whole market — gas, wood, pellet, electric, insert, or full replacement — and recommend the one that actually fits your opening, your venting, your altitude, and your budget.

Can my existing wood fireplace be converted to gas?

Often, yes — usually with a gas insert that vents through the existing chimney. Whether it works in your case depends on the condition of the chimney, the dimensions of the firebox, the venting path, and the clearances around the opening. That’s exactly the kind of question the consultation answers, with measurements rather than a guess.

Do you work with architects and builders, or only homeowners?

Both. On new construction and remodels I can work directly with your architect or builder so the fireplace is specified early — framing, clearances, venting, and finish all settled before the walls go up, rather than discovered after.

What areas do you serve?

In-home consultations across the Colorado Front Range and the mountain communities — Denver, Evergreen, Morrison, Golden, Conifer, Littleton, Lakewood, and Boulder among them. Outside that area, get in touch and we’ll work out what’s possible.

How soon can you come out?

Pick a time from the calendar on this page, or send the form and I’ll reply within one business day.

Does altitude really change which fireplace I can install?

It can. Gas appliances are listed for a range of elevations, and many need different orifices or an altitude kit above a certain height — and some aren’t listed for Colorado mountain elevations at all. Draft behaves differently up here too. It’s a routine part of specifying a fireplace in this state, and it’s one of the things that gets missed when a product is picked from a catalog.

Who you’re hiring

Know what fits. Know what it takes.

I’m David Becker. I help homeowners, architects, and builders choose the right fireplace and plan what it takes to put it in.

A fireplace decision affects more than the look of a room. The opening, venting path, clearances, finish materials, and local requirements all shape what can be installed. If those details are discovered late, they can force a redesign or add cost.

I work through those decisions early. I review the space and your goals, compare suitable products across manufacturers, and develop a clear path for the project. I can also help coordinate the details with your architect, builder, dealer, or installer so everyone is working from the same plan.

With nearly six years in fireplace sales and design, I bring both product knowledge and practical project experience to the table.

  • Gas, wood, pellet, and electric fireplace selection
  • Fireplace placement, dimensions, and finish planning
  • Venting, chimney, and clearance review
  • Colorado high-altitude and local requirement considerations
  • Product specifications and coordination with the project team

Know what fits. Know what it takes.
Then build with confidence.
